Kids classes with Michelle, Kate, Barb/Katie will study a different artist every 4 weeks and appropriate their gained knowledge into either painting or drawing. While looking at the monthly artists, students will learn to understand the elements of art: line, colour, texture, value and form and how they are utilized within the picture plane.
These classes are divided up into 6 8 sessions throughout Sept April, with each session being 4 classes, meeting once a week for 1 1.5 hrs. All supplies included in price.
An Annual Children’s Art Auction is held the first Sunday in May at Café Brio (944 Fort Street) with proceeds to benefit the Mary Manning Centre.
The youth classes with Michelle and Kate are a continuation, but more focus is placed on technique and creative thought process. Students are given projects throughout the year and are expected to work on each at their own pace with much individual instruction from Michelle.
There are 4 sessions from Sept June, each 8 weeks with classes meeting once a week for 1.5 hours with all supplies included in price.
A showing of student work is arranged annually within a local gallery. Students receive 50% of the sale of their work and are exposed to the professional workings of the gallery system and the fun of an opening night.
Adult classes with Michelle are a casual, social and fun experience into the creative world of painting. Although more focus is given to abstract art of all styles, those interested in painting realism will also benefit from the class. No experience necessary.
There are 4 sessions from Sept June. Classes meet for 3 hours once a week for a total 8 weeks, equaling one session. The cost for each session is $275. (supplies NOT included).
Pattern drafting classes with Robin Kamminga - Do you yearn to design your own clothing or free yourself from the constraints of commercial garment patterns? Pattern drafting levels 1,2,and 3 will start you on your path. Pattern drafting classes are designed with natural skill progression in mind.
Level 1 students acquire basic skills by drafting a skirt sloper and several pattern variations.
Level 2 students move on to the moulage (a mould of the students torso) and create a bodice sloper.
Level 3 using their moulage, students learn various line styles, neckline and sleeve variations and how to manipulate darts. Sewing instruction classes are also offered.
Each level consists of four classes, each class is three hours in duration. Cost per level is $130.
